American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Provides Value-Based Care Continuum
The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) recently provided a value-based care continuum that is designed to help orthopedic surgeons better navigate alternative payment models.
January 25, 2021 – The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) recently provided a value-based care continuum that is designed to help orthopedic surgeons better navigate alternative payment models. This continuum covers three alternative payment models that currently exist: fee-for-service incentive-based payments, fee-for-service benchmark-based payments, and capitated/sub-capitated payments.
By offering this framework to orthopedic surgeons, the AAOS aims to help them recognize which category they fall under and what infrastructure is needed for that particular model. The next step, beyond the value-based care continuum reference document, is to develop system-based guides to help physicians create new delivery models.
