HHS to Expand Home Health Value-Based Payment Model
CMS announced that the Home Health Value-Based Purchasing (HHVBP) Model has been certified for expansion. The HHVBP Model has led to an average annual savings of $141 million to Medicare.
January 8, 2021 – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the Home Health Value-Based Purchasing (HHVBP) Model has been certified for expansion. This model is implemented in nine states and has been in place since January 1, 2016. Through its use, health agencies have seen an average 4.6% increase in their quality scores. The HHVBP Model has also led to an average annual savings of $141 million to Medicare.
The HHVBP expansion must be implemented through rulemaking and would begin no earlier than January 1, 2022.
